1930s Del Oro 12-fret parlor in X-braced spruce over birch, 1 13/16” nut, 2 5/16” string spacing, fingerstyle/blues player

051117B

The Del Oro brand was made by Kay not long after the purchase of Stromberg Voisinet. This guitar was rebuilt from the inside out and finished in a dastardly “Black Bart” lacquer all around. The comfortable parlor size and resonant tone speaks to fingerstyle players who love to cuddle up and write some sad songs

SPECS: parlor-size body, 12-fret neck, X-braced solid spruce top, solid birch rim and back, slotted headstock with original label, cream style binding top, back and soundhole, new Golden Age tuning machines, steel reinforced poplar neck with a comfortable “C” neck profile, rosewood fretboard with new frets and MOP markers, ebony pyramid bridge, bone pins, nut and saddle. Nut width: 1 3/4”, String Spacing: 2 5/16”, Scale length: 24”, Upper bout: 9 1/4”, Lower Bout: 12 3/4”, Body length: 18“, Widest body depth: 3 3/4”, Overall length: 36 7/8” , Neck thickness at 1st fret: 7/8”, Neck thickness at 5th fret: 7/8”, Action: 1/8”, string gauge setup: 52-11s.

CONDITION: Original back replaced with Kay L-series back. Scuffs to finish all around. Work included neckset with steel reinforcement added, top replacement with fresh bracing, new fretboard and frets, and repairs to seams, braces, bridgeplate, bridge, touchups and setup.

SOUND: I like this guitar for fingerstyle but a tweak to the setup and it can turn into a fine strummer/flatpicker.

PRICE: $699
