Late 50s Kay Jumbo flat top in ladder-braced solid Douglas fir over birch with 1 10/16" nut and 2 3/16” string spacing. Top grain eye candy is a sight to behold. Amazingly fun with a generous voice, this guitar may be the opposite of parlor size but it’s sure to please a flat pickers’ eyes and ears.

I’ll be the first to admit that a rebuilt jumbo size flat top is not something you’d normally see listed on my INVENTORY page. I took this guitar in trade awhile back and decided to give it a special makeover. The doug fir top offers stiffness galore, which translates into not only a fine sound but also the strength needed to plan the 17” lower bout. The floating bridge design with a built-in compensated saddle helps with sound transfer and intonation. A relic finish and original appointments round out the appeal. Fine American-made jumbo from this period.

CONDITION: Complete rebuild to modern standard for structure and playability including updated bracing, modern truss rod and compensated bone saddle. Repurposed bone nut. Prior fret leveling was updated. Relic finish retained throughout. Please note that repurposed woods and vintage surfaces will have underlying swirls, scrapes, scratches, bumps and bruises.
SOUND: Bold and full tone typical of a large body flat top. Plectrum brings out the devil in this guitar. More suitable to flat picking and strumming but certainly capable of handling fingerstyle. Link to video soundclip below.
