This early C.F. Martin stamped New York, N.Y. believed to be model 1-26 or 1-28 from a musical family whose patriarch has passed on and consigned this guitar to my shop to sell on their behalf. I’ve had a few early 1900s Martins over the years but none this old nor in as good a condition as this example. Pro-quality neckset, and more, makes this a player right out of the custom-made coffin case. This example might not be a museum piece but you’re not likely to find another in this condition for the price.

SPECS: 1-size body, 12-fret neck with slotted headstock, X-braced book matched spruce top in aged finish, brazilian rosewood sides and back in aged finish, original friction tuners, soft “V” neck profile, original ebony fretboard with early bar frets, replica ebony bridge, original binding and embellishments all around, unbleached bone saddle with original nut and bridg pins. Nut width: 1 7/8”, String Spacing: 2 1/4”, Scale length: 24 7/8”, Upper bout: 9 3/8”, Lower Bout: 13 1/4”, Body length: 19”, Widest body depth: 4 3/16”, Overall length: 38 1/4”, Neck thickness at 1st fret: 13/16“, Neck thickness at 5th fret: 13/16”, Action: 3/32” - 1/8” to customer choice, setup for extra light round core Newtone Heritage 43-10 or high tension nylon strings in standard tuning, customer choice.

CONDITION: The most recent owner of this guitar took good care of it and it is ready to play out of the box. The list of visible repairs/upgrades include: neck reset, replica bridge, neck heel repair, 4 back cracks, fretboard extension top cracks, lower center top seam separation, some bar frets replaced, occasional binding craquelure, occasional hazing of finish work throughout. I’m happy to forward a set of still photos on request.

SOUND: The 150 year old depth of tone is hard to describe. The 4 3/16” end block depth is a dimension that might qualify as a “deep body” acoustic by modern standard. This certainly can't hurt delivering an extremely rich voice. Handles both fingerstyle and light strumming. Setup options include low tension round core steel as well as high tension nylon and can be adjusted, within reason, to suit your playing style and most alternate tunings.

PRICE: $5,999
