I build a handful of guitars each year in the spirit of the old 12-fret parlors. In this case, the Martin Size 1 body mold ensures that form and function are equal partners in this latest new/old parlor offering of an all-solid mahogany body coupled with a 30s era reinforced poplar neck. The tone has a distinct “growl” and the playability goes a long way to help make that happen.

SPECS: Size 1 body, 12-fret neck with solid headstock, ladder-braced mahogany top in hog finish, mahogany sides and back in hog finish, neck in worn dark finish, Kluson Deluxe period tuning machines, steel reinforced neck with chunky “V” profile, rosewood fretboard with new frets, MOP markers on 5, 7, and 9th frets, rosewood pyramid bridge, ebony pins, bone nut and saddle. Nut width: 1 3/4”, String Spacing: 2 1/4“, Scale length: 25”, Upper bout: 91/4“, Lower Bout: 13”, Body length: 18 5/8”, Widest body depth: 4”, Overall length: 38”, Neck thickness at 1st fret: 1”, Neck thickness at 5th fret: 1”, Action: 1/8”, string gauge setup: custom lights 52-11 gauge standard tuning.

SOUND: This guitar is a fine all-around player capable of handling many styles of play. The Martin Size 1 body is larger than your average parlor and the depth on this baby is a full 4”. Full, robust tone can be achieved with a flatpack or strummed and this guitar doesn’t mind one iota.
