40's Regal-made "Clarion" model fauxbro in solid birch, slotted headstock and sweet vintage vibe

052814H

Not quite a dobro, the "fauxbro" moniker comes from having a real resonator face place applied over an ordinary solid wood top. The saddle and bridge are the same style as a dobro but rest on the wood top instead of a metal cone or cylinder found on a true dobro. The resulting tone is very much like an all-wood parlor guitar but with an essence of metal thrown in. Can be setup for right- or left-handed play.

SPECS: 0-size, body, 12-fret neck, ladder-braced birch top over birch sides and back in original burst finish, slotted headstock with original tuning machines, very slight soft "V" neck profile, rosewood fretboard with modern frets, raised bridge, bone nut and saddle. Nut width: 1 3/4", String Spacing: 2 1/4", Scale length: 24 3/4", Upper bout: 9 3/8", Lower Bout: 13 1/4", Body length: 18", Widest body depth: 3 3/4", Overall length: 36 3/4" , Neck thickness at 1st fret: 1", Neck thickness at 5th fret: 1", Action: 1/8", String gauge setup: 53-12s

CONDITION: Nice condition overall with crack repairs to and around the f-holes and tone holes beneath the resonator plate. I replaced the original fretboard and frets with a radius'd rosewood board and modern frets so it plays like a dream. Other work included neckset, finish touchups and setup.

SOUND: Tone resembles a vintage ladder braced parlor from the period without the heavy metallic sound of a true resonator guitar. It has a comfortable neck profile and can be played just like a regular guitar. Great for old time music. Unusual example and nice find.
